One unified Design System and rebranding for logistic platforms
SOLUTION
Portfolio of Logistic Companies
We cooperated with a client that needed to unify their products’ scattered looks of five different logistics systems to help their partners effectively manage marine logistic transport.

GOALS
Redesign and unify all five platforms to improve their usability, create a Design System including components for all the apps, and speed up product implementation through reusability of the components.
the result
Five redesigned and unified systems.
Established the key visual language.
Built a unified and scalable Design System.
Documentation for the Design System and product development process.
Roadmap for developing the Design System.
Making complex easy
Our client’s goal was to have a Design System that could work for all the logistic platforms in their portfolio. However, they were not sure where to start and how to orchestrate the process of creating and developing it. They struggled with pinpointing the KPIs and roles that should be included in this task. What’s more, the client wanted to optimize the handoff process by introducing new best practices and reusable components.
They decided to start cooperation with ProjectUX because of our expertise with Design Systems as well as the analysis and roadmap we prepared during the workshop offered at the very beginning.
The planning phase
Design System is like an ecosystem. You need molecules that build atoms, and then organisms.
Product Discovery
The first step was to understand the business needs of our client, draft out what should go into the scope of our project, help the team identify the process flow, and set out a roadmap. Next, we conducted a workshop that solidified the project plan, KPIs, and went through our UX & UI audit along with our onboarding.
Unifying and revamping the design
ABC
Each platform had their own team of designers and developers led by a different Product Manager. Bringing consistency to this company meant gathering the issues and ideas from all the five teams and coming up with consistent components that would help our client avoid redrawing and rewriting the same thing over and over.
UX & UI Design
We started from getting to know the logistic platforms and mapping out components that should be unified and those which should be revamped. We cooperated with in-house Product Managers and designers to make sure that we tackle the usability challenges that stopped users from effectively managing their maritime processes in the applications. When it comes to the UX, we mainly focused on data hierarchy, clarity and intuitiveness of the features along with accessibility.
Interactivity and testing
UI design
Once we have gone through the process of unification and primary iterations, it was time to present the outcome to stakeholders. After gathering feedback, we turned static designs into interactive prototypes for user testing sessions we co-ran.
Handoff can be easy
That’s why we collaborated with analysts and developers not only while creating the Design System from the visual side but also on the stage of writing the code for the revamped component library. We wanted to make sure that the consistency between the code repository such as Storybook and Figma files will be maintained. We wanted to get rid of any discrepancies in time to avoid a product drift and handoff struggles in the future.
We believe that a Design System is a project that should include not only designers but also the whole product development team to create a single source of truth for everybody.
The single source of truth for everybody
ProjectUX took on the role of an advisor and led to build a scalable and unified component library for both designers and developers. This resulted in better usability and obvious unification of our client’s five platforms. What’s more it also brought on board a better handoff process that saved developers time to build the product thanks to the reusable components and consistency across teams.
The goal of our cooperation was to take on the ownership over developing a Design System and optimize the whole product development process.
